Poyim fae Mondays past

Today’s a bit of a blast from the past.  This poem appeared in “5PX2”, a bilingual collaboration between Luath and Torino Poesia.  In it, five poems from five Scottish poets under 40 were translated into Italian – and five poems from five Italian poets under 40 were translated into English or Scots.

The book was launched in Edinburgh at the Italian Cultural Institute, a place you simply must visit if and when you get the chance.  We had been angling for a return trip, but it was an excellent piece of international cooperation, a great night and remains a brilliant read.

All of my poems were love poems, and this one popped into my head as I was doing chaos yoga with MBD and TBW this morning.  Happy Monday.

Trouble

The trouble is
you like me
and I like you
and never having chosen it
no-one can unchoose
this trouble for you,
trouble for me.

The trouble is
I am me
and you are you
and we’re really very different
but sometimes seem the same.
Trouble for you,
trouble for me.

The trouble is
what I’m saying is true
and it has to be
and it’s only you
whose heard it from me.
Trouble for me,
trouble for you.

The trouble is
I won’t just leave
because I think that you
are worth living for
so I’m still here
thankful for this
trouble for you
trouble for me.
